Movies - The Great Escape. Literally. For 2.5 hours we are whisked away into fantasy where our emotions are plucked like the strings on a well played harp.
We laugh. We cry. We hope. We get angry. We get disappointed. We get turned on. We are resolved, at the end of the journey, like the method or not, but there is an end to the beginning, even if there is to be a sequel.
What strikes us most in the film tells us about ourselves, tell us about our values and our character. Who did you relate to most in the film? Why? And did they get what you have longed for? So now what? What do you do with your living character? How do you get what you want when you walk out of the theatre?
We can write a script for our lives, but unlike a film, we cannot direct the action. The action in the real world relies on free will and choices that serve each person's own individual scripts. What if there was a film where each actor wrote their own lines? Would it make sense? Yet here in the real world, we rely on just that.
My script may not be your script, but when we decide to share our lives, we decide to collaborate and write a script together. Will there be artistic differences? Yes. Disagreements over conflict resolution? Yes. And yes, there will be other challenges, but this is not just a movie you're talking about. This is your quality of life - TOGETHER.
Maybe you won't get the fairytale ending or the ending you wrote in your original script, but sometimes the best cooking comes from the heart and not from a recipe. Maybe it's the script itself. Should there be a pre-SCRIPT-ion for love?
You can design love, but real love comes from the heart, not a recipe, and not a script. It's not found in any book or on any screen. It's in a touch, a look, an embrace, or in something as simple as going to a hidden pond in the middle of Houston, sitting on the dock, watching the ducks swim and the sun go down while thinking "I wouldn't want to be here with anyone else but YOU."
