Clearing the Hurdle - Note To Self 7/21/2008 4:52:24 AM
The past. Just when you think you're on the road to the future, up jumps the devil or devilina. That past can be person, place or thing. Whatever it is, you wish it would have stayed in its place and remained there. Why, we ask, does IT continue to come back? I've learned a few things while sitting on the porch, listening and thinking about the wisdom that has recently stopped by for visit. Perhaps the past is like a test, a measuring stick to see where you are in your growth and where you still need improvement.
I remember talking to my sister one day and telling her that life was full of hurdles. Those hurdles were life challenges, and until you cleared all the hurdles, you couldn't go on to a new track. You'd continue running around in that same circle until you cleared all the hurdles.
I figure that the past is like that, too, and once cleared, it will continue to pop up from time to time, just test you. Just to see if you can still clear it. It's a time to examine yourself, see where you've changed, see where you haven't, and determine where you're gonna go next.
And the next time that hurdle pops up, maybe you'll clear, maybe you won't, maybe you clear it and fall flat on your face when you land, or maybe you'll land on your feet - either way, just remember to keep on trying and never give in to a hurdle.
In fact, even better, walk away on your own. Who says there's a rule that you've gotta stay on the track at all? The only reason you're still on the track is because you want to be there. The only reason you come across the hurdle and give it attention is because you want to participate with the hurdle. You still want to engage the challenge.
The death of the magical world did not come from being defeated from some greater power. It came from a lack of belief. Put simply, people stopped acknowledging its existence, and when something is ignored, it does not exist, for it lives for the attention. So whether you clear the hurdle or not, the hurdle still wins. It got your attention.
