"This book is classified as "inspirational" and it truly is inspirational. I have read a lot of self-help, motivational, and inspirational books, but this one ranks as one of the best I have ever read. Most books tell you how to pull yourself up by the bootstraps and occasionally that might work for a while. But this book shows us how to make real, true changes that will last for a lifetime.
Gloria takes us back to the start and shows us that the problems in her life were, and are, not due to a poor home life. The only incident that she remembers that could have started her on a road to rebellion was a run-in with one of her teachers. While she may be right, and that could have been her starting point, we all have a starting point to rebellion simply because we choose one. Rebellion is born in our hearts and will play out in our lives unless we giveour hearts to the Great Physician to be made whole.
To come from a good home and still become the slave to narcotics is not strange. Sin makes one a slave no matter what form it takes. Some forms are just more visible than others. Gloria sheds all pretense and lays her inner-self bare in this book in order to show us that it is not her righteousness that brought about her release. She sought God and accepted his payment for her sins, as we must all do in order to really become free. He leads her, step by step, back into the light. This book explains some of the lessons she learned on that journey.
Several of the lessons really hit home with me. One is that "We think only we can solve our problems and those of everyone around us. Two things are certain (1) There is a God, (2) You're not Him." Or, as I read it to myself, "There is only one God, and it aint me." Another lesson that specifically hit home to me was, "You always have the choice to learn from your mistakes or continue to repeat them." How true! "I knew that whatever came my way while I was in the care of God, He had already looked over and allowed it to come. I could relax now. The focus shifted from my distrust of man to a total reliance on God." Perfect peace.
The lessons get even better as the book continues. I won't share the best because you really need to read this book and learn the lessons for yourself. This is not just a book I recommend; it is a MUST READ book. If you take that advice, your life will likely never be the same again."
