A press release recently appeared in the Times of Ti newspaper (Essex county, NY) about Jodi Auborn and her newest book, "Matthias: The Ghost of Salvation Point."
Ticonderoga author Jodi Auborn recently released her fourth book, "Matthias: The Ghost of Salvation Point," written for readers of about 8 to 12 years old.
“Like two of my previous novels, "Stormwind of the North Country" and "Secrets of the North Country," this book is based on a short story that I wrote when I was younger,” the author said. “It was originally called "The Son of the Seafarer," and since it was a birthday gift for my dad, I attempted to write it as a serious adult story. In August 2013, I decided to re-write it and turn it into a book, but realized that it needed a lot of work. That’s when I knew that it just didn’t work as an adult story; it was meant to be a book for kids.”
"Matthias" takes place in the fictional small town of Salvation Point, Maine. It tells the story of ten-year-old Dylan, who is spending his summer vacation at a mysterious lighthouse and cottage that his father had inherited. He soon befriends Matthias MacMurray, a ghostly lighthouse keeper who had died in a storm one hundred years before. Matthias must protect Dylan from danger after they learn a very big secret that could threaten the future of the lighthouse.
“Like the original story, it was going to be a gift for my dad,” the author said. “He loved lighthouses and the ocean, and was the one who had also gotten me interested in them when I was a teenager. However, he died unexpectedly in 2014. After that, researching and writing the book took on more meaning for me. Since I was writing it in his memory, I considered it especially important to get the dialogue and storyline just right, as well as making sure that the facts about lighthouses were historically accurate.”
In the near future, the author plans to have a book signing for "Matthias" and her other books, in Ticonderoga. She would like to thank all of her readers and buyers for their support, and interest in her writing.
