Crawling through the underground clubs and bars of the hardcore music scene, one young man looks for love and adventure in the dirty back streets of the City of Gold. He finds himself involved in something bigger, dark forces all around him trying to decide the fate of the human race. Can he outsmart the various factions who are leaving a trail of blood through his favorite drinking spots? Or will he end up just another screaming sacrifice to the ancient gods of chaos?
This work of fiction is based in and around Johannesburg. In the dying decades of the 20th century, Africa's commercial hub was a musical wonderland, the likes of which may never be seen again. The clubs, the bands, the people, the memories, these need to be immortalized so that future generations can see how life should be lived. And so that those of us who were there can remember what happened in those alcohol-fuelled days.
But please note that it is not a documentary. It includes some supernatural elements. Occult, even. Philosophical and metaphysical musings. And many four letter words. Love. Live. Work. Beer. Several others more personal in nature, which might offend sensitive readers. Please do not allow this novel to fall into the hands of those with a delicate disposition.
Some names have been changed, to protect the guilty. I've also taken a few liberties with dates and places in order to include clubs and bands that came along later. Because I'm not writing another one of these.
This is my humble tribute to the South African rock n roll generation. To those of us who survived, and to the fallen heroes who live on in our hearts.
