Well, fellow Writers and Authors, I just received an email confirmation and sample contract from Publish America, advising me that "Bawlmer Boyhood" is about to enter the "chutes." The race may be long, the outcome uncertain, but in the immortal words from The Green Bay Packers Coach - "It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game!"
I would humbly ask for any help and support offered by my "Team-Mates."
Yes, I am EXCITED! Yes, there's a lot of work still to be done! My original submission was only 3,000 words. When the first interest expressed asked for more, I somehow misunderstood the minimum. Thinking it was only 8,500 words, I sent a manuscript containing 11,000 words, thinking it was "plenty."
Now, it appears that if it is under 20,000 words it creates some other marketing problems, and/or costs. So, When I receive answers to my queries, the end product may be anywhere from 20,000 to 30,000 words!
As a novice in this arena, I would welcome any suggestions or experiences from anyone who has already been published by Publish America. Although I have been quite prolific for over 15 years, most of my "Babies" have been stored in my little grey box! For a short while now, gradually, they are being posted here, hoping that some publisher or editor might "discover" me.
If I understand the terminology correctly, PA is a POD - Print on Demand type operation. As I have garnered from many of your articles and comments here on AD, the Writing part is the easy part! The Marketing thereof is the REAL challenge.
So, please, don't be a stranger - I will need all the help I can get. As Elizabeth's very helpful "download" explains, there is a lot of WORK yet to be done, if any measure of success is to be achieved.
Although many of you have been extremely kind with your review of my short pieces, I have not received many reviews on "Bawlmer Boyhood" - guess everyone is so busy promoting their own creative works that not much time can be spent on longer readings?
Anyway, my Fellow Lads and Lasses, please wish me luck - OH - and a prayer or two couldn't hurt either!
