Sept 18 Conway poetry reading at the Conway Public Library- The Poetry of David C. Baker and Friends will be celebrated by family, friends and fans. Filmmaker and former Valley resident, Judy C. Faust, will facilitate the evening, sharing an original poem, and showing a video clip from her new documentary “See What’s Whispered: The Legacy of Artist David C. Baker.” Poet and performer Danny Bianchino will read from Blue Tarp, a book of poems by Baker. This celebration of Baker’s creativity and influence is free and open to the public. Dennis Johnson 1954. - February 22, 2007,  basketball player and coach./he played in college at Pepperdine and was drafted by Seattle in 1976. Johnson was traded to Phoenix in 1980 and then to Boston in 1983. He averaged 14.1 points and 5.0 assists. When he retired, he was the 11th player in NBA history to total 15,000 points and 5,000 assists. Johnson made one all-NBA first team and one second team. Six times he made the all-defensive first team, including five consecutive seasons (1979-83).

But I will dream like any child;

  For, lo! a mighty swan,

With radiant plumage undented,

  And folded airy van,

Lesson 1

At least I've learned this much:
Life doesn't have to be
all poetry and roses. Life
can be bus rides, gritty sidewalks,
electric bills, dishwashing,
chapped lips, dull stubby pencils
with the erasers chewed off,
cheap radios played too loud,
the rank smell of stale coffee
yet still glow
with the inner fire of an opal,
still taste like honey.
