After its 2016 debut as a featured reading at Stories on Stage in Davis, CA, "Widflower Season" was acquired by Chiron Review for 2017 publication.
It is set in the northern Nevada town of Lamoille, Nevada, against a backdrop of the Ruby Mountains and pits Cass, a freewheeling woman of today's west, against Jamie, an old-boy throwback from an earlier time. Both pursue their own ends through a series of misunderstandings to a heartbreaking finish.
Since this will will also be the opening story of my forthcoming linked collection "Borders and Boundaries," it is especially gratifying to have it already in print. Moreover, Cass will return as a character several moore times. Four other stories of the ten in this collection have seen pre-publication in various journals, so the idea of linking tales from both sides of what is a very rural border between Quincy, CA and Lamoille, NV clearly has appeal.
