Important Terms To Understanding
Before diving into the subject of the mind, one must truly understand the following terms.
Night Terrors: (Not Nightmares) When your child sits up screaming, eyes still closed. They are visibly shaking and sweating.
Cognition: Understanding what people actually mean by the way they say it.
Social Skills: How they interact and communicate with the world around them.
Psychosis: They lose their ability to see and understand what is real and what is not.
Delusions: Believing something is true even when its proved to be false. No matter what you say they won’t change their mind.
Hallucinations: Seeing and hearing things that are not there, but believing they are. No matter what you say.
I have first hand knowledge of these definitions. My daughter, at the age of 18 was finally diagnosed with Schizo-Affective Disorder.
Let me explain, she had never done drugs, and every year since she was two they have changed her diagnoses. It turned out that each of those diagnose was a symptom of her mental disorder. These terms were confusing at first, so I took each one and thought about her different behaviors and how it was applied. That's is how I came to understand them.
If anyone wants to discuss what is going on with there child, just let me know. I’m always open to talk about it.
I wrote a book to share with other parents out there, to let them know their way of thinking during the traumatic event is normal. We all have different ways of processing what is happening to our children.
