Jenn, I feel even more alone now after hearing that you are no longer with us. I feel like a part of me was ripped away, like my smile has been lost… I don’t know just what to say but I have to say something. I will always remember you and I will never forget you, but still I feel like a part of me that you helped create, the part that wants to meet people and interact with strangers has fled with your passing… I want to cave in upon myself and lock the world out… you helped me through some very had times, and no one will ever know. My family doesn’t even know of you. No one does. I rarely spoke of you to those outside our poetry family yet still you are such a huge part of who I am I don’t know what to do now… I’m going to miss you and I will always love you…

For most of my life,
I have cursed your ways.
Whenever something happened,
That I didn’t agree with,
I would throw stones at the clouds,
Try an find a way to tear you down.
But you do know compassion,
You do know forgiveness,
Because you gave her a handful of years,
To know love and companionship.
She was dragged through,
Some of the darkest of alleys,
On some of the darkest of nights,
That she called her youth.
But before you took her breath,
You gave her a child,
Then a family,
Of which love blossomed like flame,
And you gave her a reason to smile,
And faded away the blame.
We might not always know,
What thoughts stir within you,
But god, I would like to say,
Thank you.
Thank you for giving her a smile,
Thank you for bringing her to us,
Thank you for showing her kindness,
Thank you for giving her trust.
An angel is created by you,
But some of them you never meant to,
You simply built a soul full of hope,
And with it she spread her wings,
Looked up from the pits of hell,
And lifted off, to join the world.
It wasn’t as easy as portrayed,
And sometimes she stumbled and swayed,
But you gave her a guardian too,
And for joining Jenn with Lisa,
God I have to say, thank you.

Book of Hope
By J.S. (The Ravyn)
i once looked out upon the land
and wondrous fair it seemed
flowers raising their heads
to catch the sun-drops
and life was all i had ever dreamed
again i looked but shadows
had fallen dark upon the glade
green withered and browned
and fled from my gaze
and life was death without her shroud
so i vowed to find that greenery
that once i knew so well
and though for years i sought
all became more barren still
hope scurried from my side
within the musty dungeon walls
in the castle of the king of pain
shackled and chained, fading sight
a flicker just beyond my grasp
but the images remained
flying through the darkest night
eastward with the rising wind
to yet another wasteland
hope ahead, i fell behind
within the corridors of my mind
and there i found a tiny piece
of that long ago paradise
with trembling hand i reached
fearing illusion, pulling back
before touching disappointment
but you reached out for my fleeing hand
and caught it up and held it firm
kissing away the fears and tears
of life upon the vagabond trail
opening once again the book of hope
today i smiled as you laughed
and we cried together and i sighed
to love another so completely
is a strange thing to me, and yet
i would trade for nothing in this world
(for lisa, my love, my light, my "book of hope")

Ravyn Rose
Written Mar 01, 2004
Gathering crowds of alone,
Wind whistles through cracked windows,
We have gathered here to be shown,
The tale of one, Ravyn Rose.
The candles flame, shudders and sighs,
Calms itself, as the wax rolls down,
Clouds roll apart, an owl takes to the skies,
A ghost sits outside,
Wrapped in her wedding gown.
Yellowed with age,
Browned in dried blood,
Still wet, with tears of rage,
Drowned in the cyclone flood.
Your hearts will not be free,
Her tale is one that will bleed to break,
And leave you all in some degree,
Feeling alone, burning upon a stake.
For it is our fault that this took place,
That a trail of life was left,
From Bakersfield, to Colorado, retrace,
We are the ones, who stayed the theft,
And denied her embrace.
A little girl screamed, but we never cared,
A little girl bled, be we never dared,
A child was lost, and we were the cost.
A million people, passing by,
We only saw a whore, an addict,
She probably did it herself, so why,
Should I stop to help some convict?
You shake your head,
Deny your own thought,
We all made this bed,
With lessons we were taught.
Imagine for a second, a cold night,
A young girl, wanting nothing but life,
Hiding from every car, from ever light,
Fearing the devil would find her, make her his wife,
That’s where your thought stops,
Too cruel to go on,
She couldn’t go to the cops,
But the devil did find her,
Raped her as you sipped coffee that dawn.
Yes your tears come now,
Too late and too little to help,
We all disavow,
Disallow,
That this could be so true,
But I tell you,
Even now,
These tears are not new.
The ghost outside, with phantom fears,
Walks inside and sits down,
Next to us, her peers,
For she is not dead, look around,
She will live for many years
Gathered crowds of alone,
Embrace and swear to those,
That before the night has grown,
We will all embrace her, Ravyn Rose.

With the Wind
By J.S. (The Ravyn)
Life burns as a fire
consuming that which holds it
sometimes the flames burn high
other times only dimly glowing coals
until all that is left is grey ash
blowing away with the wind
………..
you are the Phoenix Jenn, and your wings will always be remembered for the shimmer of hope that they carried…
