The Canadian Authors Association—Alberta Branch presented Joan Marie Galat with the Exporting Alberta Award by for her newest book: Dot to Dot in the Sky, Stories of the Zodiac.
Published by Whitecap Books in Vancouver and Toronto, Dot to Dot in the Sky, Stories of the Zodiac blends night sky science with storytelling—revealing the ancient myths told by early Greeks. The book includes a glow-in-the-dark chart depicting northern hemisphere constellations, enabling readers to discover how to locate zodiac constellations by jumping from one star group to the next—dot to dot in the sky.
Although written for ages 8-12, adults also favor the book as an astronomy and mythology resource. The books’ content matches school curriculums covering astronomy, mythology, and Greek history. An accomplished storyteller, Galat is a regular presenter at schools, libraries, and other venues.
The award was presented at the Canadian Authors Association meeting at the University of Alberta on Friday, May 30, 2008.

Read this book twice, cover to cover. Loved its simplicity, and yet it
did not speak down to the reader. My daughter and I learned things
we'll not soon forget. Loved the glow in the dark map too. Great idea
for a book.
Imaginative and informative - a real delight for the starry-eyed among
us!
Dot to Dot in the Sky by Joan Marie Galat successfully combines
scientific facts about the stars with the stories of the zodiac. This
accomplished writer manages to make both subjects equally fascinating.
Although written for a younger audience, this book is a useful guide
for stargazers of any age.
