This book uncovers the truth regarding Social Security now, and in the years to come. As usual Dr. Smith offers an abundance of references to support what his investigation has uncovered. Dr. Smith does a fantastic job of explaining the complexity of this issue so that the average reader can understand it easily…

…Who should read this? Anyone who works and pays into Social Security (FICA) and those who have worked and prepaid their benefits (the baby boomers). If we all become informed on this matter we can better understand why Congress wants to reduce benefits.

The title "SOCIAL SECURITY: Will It Be There For You?" describes well the purpose of this book, which is forward-looking, not backward-looking. Its extensive historical treatment of Social Security's finances since 1983 is meant to provide the relevant context for a just solution to its present and future funding problems.

Unless you realize that the Social Security Amendments of 1983 were a heartless scam for the purpose of funding the federal government's operations, you may be fooled into blaming the victim, the baby boomers, for the shortfall in funding their retirement instead of seeking restitution for the theft of their surpluses from those who benefited by it.

Instead of being saved and invested for the retirement of the baby boomers, as was the intent of the legislation, the surplus revenue was used to fund income tax cuts for the wealthy, wars and other government programs. Social Security's surplus revenue was used for non-Social Security purposes.

This is a good read on the social security mess. I have always thought the problems with SS were much worse than the Washington “experts” have let on. This book confirms my fears. Dr. Smith does a great job drawing attention to the problems which I think will soon become a crisis. He weaves a narrative exploring how we got here, from the Social Security Amendments of 1983 that allowed for increased with-holdings to build up a surplus of funds for the upcoming baby boomer generation, to the devious decisions Washington insiders of both parties to raid the SS fund for general budget spending. I especially was outraged at the idea that to pay for the hefty tax cuts that were enacted to help the rich, new funds from the expanded SS program would be diverted to both parties’spending wants.

Smith is a smooth writer. He makes it easy to understand some fairly difficult concepts. I really like his “no holds barred” writing style. It is with great excitement that I give this book a five star rating.

Allen Smith has done his homework. This is a major update of his original masterpiece The Looting of Social Security. It integrates the original theft and destruction of the Social Security Trust with the underpinning (and, to most Americans, hidden) motives, philosophy, and actions of the extreme right-wing Billionaire Party politicians who have now taken over many state governments and the House of Representatives, and now want to destroy the very concept of Social Security.

And it is a story that needs to be told and re-told. The media and politicians will never talk about it because both Democrat and Republican presidents took advantage of Social Security as a huge slush fund. Now no politician or any stripe will want to reveal that the bag is empty.
