Where and when? Bendigo Library, 5.30 – 6.30pm, May 2nd, 2016
This talk assesses the value (philosophic, imaginative and social) of literary and popular texts exploring alternative histories (or 'counterfactuals') and/or parallel or alternative worlds/universes/realities. Works by historians, creative writers, physicists, screenwriters, ‘quantum jumping’ new agers, psychologists and writers on the paranormal will be used to illustrate some of the points being made. The topic is of more than 'academic' interests these days given a high percentage of the physics community ascribe to the so-called 'many worlds interpretation' of Quantum mechanics. Ian's experience writing and revising a novel (The City of Quartz) set in an alternative Central Victoria will also be discussed.
