"I have just finished Mercer's Manor, which I read in two sittings and very much enjoyed. I like the character of Dan a lot and found him easy to identify with, and especially the complicated relationship between him and Glory, which is not resolved until the final chapter and the fire at the Wayfarer. The relationship between Dan and Archie is also very well drawn, I think, and lays out the joys and the difficulties two men experience when they try to combine mutual protection and friendship with the process of getting to know each other.
I consider your portrayal of the Nineteenth Century American West a well-researched and colorful portrait of life in those times, and your secondary characters nicely fill out the attitudes and viewpoints of people who lived there then. You also accomplished the difficult task of representing Christian values without resorting to lectures or preaching. I know this is hard to do, and you did it here."
