Nataki Suggs is a poet, author, wife and mother of two. Born and raised in the metropolitan Washington, DC area, Suggs began writing at a young age. By the age of eleven, she had already won first place in a poetry writing contest. When the prime of adolescence hit Suggs’ life, some experiences halted her knack for writing. However overcoming these same trials caused her to remember and rebirth her passion for writing.

God’s Gift
I dedicate this poem to anyone who deals with or has dealt with a relative who has or had special needs. You are not alone. I know your pain. I know your struggle.
Having a child with special needs can be hard at times to believe God is the one who can fulfill their true destiny
It’s hard at times to comprehend why society judges them But I stand to see how the Creator who made all men Can do great things with them… And they can make it like all men
The stares and the whispers in the stores, malls and even in some homes The special ones are God’s creation and yes they are truly blessed
So I say to you it’s only a test, a test of your faith Hold on and you will begin to see why they are here The purpose the Almighty destined for them to be… They are fearfully and wonderfully made So take it day by day and remember to keep the faith
God’s Gift
Patience, love and kindness can be developed with a child
Who has certain challenges… Begin to embrace what you continue to face You will win in the end, especially if you show love to them
