Jasdora has epilepsy. Since her fifth birthday, this disorder determines her life and that of her parents. She visits dozens of doctors and is examined over and over again. For one of these examinations, a ‘crown of thorn’ is placed on her head. This crown is connected to a computer, which registers her brain activity. During this 24-hour examination, Jasdora tells us about her life, her hopes and fears and her parents. It is an authentic testimony of the restrictions which epilepsy patients and their family have to bear. Jasdora’s story deals with powerlessness and doubt, but also with hope and happiness.
This story is based on the life and experiences of the son of the author. In the nineties he published a teenage-diary about the life of his son: ‘Vallen en opstaan’, (in Dutch), Lannoo Tielt, Belgium.
