The identity is a very tricky concept. It is used by others for recognition and classification purposes. I have never looked at myself in the flesh like others have, only in reflection am I able to see myself and yet I am capable of talking and relating to myself better than I can with others. No one will ever know me like I know me. People have a tendency to ignore what they cannot see. So, are we really here? Since none of us can see ourselves outside of a reflection, does that mean we can only have a spiritual and mental relationship within ourselves and not with others leaving philanthropy and procreation as the only reasons for social engagement? Is my reflection more proof of my physical existence than my consciousness? Personal identity is important because you should not expect the world to see you as you see yourself. That is the power of the opinion. The world can only see you, it cannot tell you whom you are or what your mission is.
At birth and sometimes during the entire childhood parents see/dream for you and give you a name to plant the seed of an identity in you. In the early adulthood, society will eventually give you a name and a place. The whole trick is to not remain situated in one place or mind state too long. Time will never pass you by as long as you stay on top of yourself about being aware of your surroundings and who you are. Never be afraid of or attempt to resist the urge to learn more about Self and to utilize all talents hidden within.
The last identity that all of us would love to exist under is the senior citizen. With all due respect these people are walking learning facilities filled with history, experience, and hope. Through the tales of the elderly you become captivated by the time that once was while receiving a real history lesson along with a moral for any situation in life. There shouldn’t be any teacher under the age fifty. I feel this way because anyone with half a century under their belt has a life lesson to share with the world. Survival is the only thing that matters, the ability to live comfortably with or w/out the technology of today could be an important part of SELF awareness. Another great thing about being the old person is that no one knows who or where you have been or what you’ve done over the years. For the elderly that leaves room for Self forgiveness. A chance to embrace the person you always wanted to be.
We Are The Children
How many of you have children with behavioral problems? Do you blame the kids for their actions or yourselves? If you do blame yourself for their shortcomings and/or clandestine activities then you may have had or have the behavioral problem. The ability to afford children and the ability to parent/nurture are two different things. Food, shelter, and lights are important for adult needs, but children/babes require dedication and confidence to grow. Within this dedication lies room for the teaching, so watch what you say and do around all children; not just yours, and the most important part of all is presence (the parent’s ability to be there for their children under all circumstances). Even in the working world most problems on the job stem from a person’s home life whether current or former. With all these phonies out here playing on the minds of the youth the best and only thing that you as conscious parents can ever be to the children are examples. The children idolize cartoon characters only to become teens (adults with restrictions) filled with delusions of grandeur regarding their existence. Remember, whatever you are not teaching your children, it will show and whatever you do to them will affect them for the rest of their lives.
Children are constantly finding themselves in life, learning and adapting to any environment; this is also what makes them dangerous at times to themselves and others. From a spiritual view we are all children of the earth. With age we constantly learn our way through life each new day at a time. It’s not just a new day because of the name changing; you have never existed in tomorrow and all the planning/creative imaging in the world won’t change that. How many of you are faking smiles in the workplace as well as at home? Is not being able to express one’s emotions part of being an adult? Society tells the fiery youth to suppress their emotions to prevent something (I am not sure what). Maybe working with suppressed emotions caters to that positive attitude that keeps us down. A local poet named Ize Ofrika once wrote;
“… REMINISCING OVER THE TIMES WHEN INNOCENT CHILDREN USED TO PLAY
NOW THEY PLAY INNOCENT PRETENDING TO HEED WISE WORDS THAT THE ELDERS SAY
PRETENDING IS ALL OUR FUTURE HAS BECOME
A BIG GAPPING MASS OF MORAL HYPOCRITES AND A UNITED FAIRWELL TO GOOD INTENTIONS
A LITTLE GOOD REQUIRES NECESSARY EVIL TO SUSTAIN ITSELF
A TRADE OFF LESS SOUL AND SERENITY FOR MORE HOPES OF OBTAINING WEALTH…”
Learning as an adult is hard, especially when other adults/parents sometimes act as if their shit doesn’t stink. Just because you are alive and older does not mean that everything you did was the correct and only way to do it. If everyone did things the same there would be no revolutionaries, idealists, geniuses, or inventors [all one in the same]. Some of the grown-ups are pissed off and depressed because the adult world does not treat them as they feel it should and many others are still children with adult bodies (assholes). Adulthood does not mean you don’t need to learn anymore; it is the opportunity to learn more without censorship in order to raise your consciousness. *We are taught in such a way that makes us tire of being educated, so we run from learning what we believe to be useless. We should want to rise into a heightened sense of awareness through both experience and education. Please do not neglect the benefits of furthering your education.
