Miramar, Florida, March 22, 2013: South Florida Connects, Inc. (SFC) is a local Miramar community non-profit, outreach, and advocacy organization, that provides confidential straight spouse awareness education, and support, to immigrant & minority individuals in a relationship with a secretly LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender)  spouse.  

Since October 2010, the organization provides straight spouse awareness support via their website at Click here, through radio outreach broadcasts on “The Donneth Show” via WAVS1170am radio, and online via Click here. 

SFC advocates steadfastly for the immigrant and minority Click here residing in South Florida, all over the USA, and the Caribbean including Jamaica. In 2010, SFC began providing telephone and email peer support, to immigrant men and women of every nationality. 

SFC is now offering face-face group support, to heterosexual men and women who find that they unintentionally, unwillingly or unknowingly got in a relationship or marriage with someone who is secretly and actively, lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. (LGBT) and require support to help them handle this difficult situation. 

SFC Straight spouse support group meetings are held on 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at 7:30pm. Please call for information.

All straight spouses are welcome to join the support group, organized by SFC’s President Debbie Thomas-Brown, a volunteer straight spouse peer support specialist, and community outreach advocate, who works as a Nurse. 

Click here helps straight spouses in South Florida and worldwide. She earned numerous community service awards for her volunteer work in the South Florida community. She was named Click here by the Points of Light Institute on October 3, 2012, for demonstrating exemplary citizenship through her volunteer work with straight spouses.

Debbie was also named a Broward County Heart of the Community Volunteer of the Year by HandsOn Broward in 2011 and 2012; she was awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award, a National Honor, offered in recognition for her outstanding volunteer service work, with South Florida Connects, Inc. and Family & Friends Connection, Inc.  

The City of Miramar and Family & Friends Connection, Inc. awarded her several Outstanding Community Volunteer Awards, to recognize her outstanding achievements as a community volunteer.
