I am very excited to announce that as part of their adult education program at the Penfield Presbyterian Church (near Rochester, NY), the congregation will be encouraged to read Charlie No Face as part of their “All of PPC Reads” initiative. This is the brainchild of Jan Kennedy, Spiritual Development Leader. I will be doing a reading and discussion of the book at the church on Friday October 14 at 7pm. Should be fun.

Spencerport High School is also planning to use Charlie No Face in their curriculum this coming year as a companion to To Kill a Mockingbird. Also very exciting.

As I noted in my last newsletter, I finished my new novel, Chimney Bluffs, a month ago. I am now in the process of re - reading and editing the manuscript for the second time. I’m looking for rough edges to sand. It is going well. Before I start submitting it to possible publishers in the fall, I plan to have a freelance editor work on it as well.

When I am near the completion of a novel, I usually have already developed an idea for the next one. This time is no different, although the idea has come more slowly, in large part because of the time I have been spending promoting Charlie No Face. I can’t say much about the next book now. It is still in the quickening stage - - - - I know a germ of an idea is coming to life but it is too early to name it.

My other good news is that an article I wrote, “The Stories We Live”, is appearing in the July issue of Psychotherapy Networker, which is a well - respected magazine for psychotherapists and others. This was a long journey. They’ve had the article for two years and just recently found a spot for it. I like this article because in it I discuss the connection between writing and doing psychotherapy.
