Newsletter Dated: 2/27/2013 6:58:25 AMSubject: On Sorrow
Kaethe Weingarten, Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry, has written an excellent paper on “chronic sorrow” that appeared recently in the professional journal, Family Process. In it she discusses her own and her patients’ experience with “resurgent sadness related to the ongoing losses associated with illness and disability… [and] loss of self.”
Barry Jacobs is a good friend of mine who lives in the Philadelphia area where he is a psychologist working in a family medicine residency program. Barry is also a nationally known expert in caregiving (author of The Emotional Survival Guide for Caregivers). Since my latest novel, Chimney Bluffs, is about loss and sorrow, Barry asked if I would be interested in working together on a blog for the Collaborative Family Healthcare Association’s website, reflecting on Dr. Weingarten’s article.
I thought some of you might be interested in this topic, so I am including the link here. If you decide to read the blog, you will see that there is also another link to Dr. Weingarten’s paper.
