I was invited to present a daylong workshop on fiction writing at this year’s annual Psychotherapy Networker Symposium in Washington D.C. (March). I was excited and nervous about this opportunity. I had been asked to present at the Symposium before, but not on writing and not for a whole day. The workshop was well-received and a lot of fun. On the strength of that, I contacted Writers and Book here in Rochester when I returned, proposing a workshop on fiction writing for local psychotherapists. The proposal was accepted. It is entitled, “From Story Listening to Story Telling: Fiction Writing for Psychotherapists.” I will be offering it on Tuesday July 1, 8, 15 at 7-9pm. Check out the Writers and Books website for more information (www.wab.org).
My most recently completed novel, “More More Time,” is in editing with Savant Books and Publications. My editor, Wendy Dunn, and I have worked diligently for the last five months shaping and reshaping the story, especially the last ten (count ‘em) ten chapters. We will both be glad when it’s good to go.
In the meantime I am working on other things. I’ve started another novel---“Parrot Talk”--- which is about two brothers who learn that their mother, from whom they have been estranged for over forty years, has died. They also learn that they have inherited her parrot, Paul, who has a lot to say. I’m having fun with this dialogue driven story.
Since writing novels takes so long, I am experimenting with other forms. As most of you know, I write a blog for Psychology Today magazine, called “Going Out Not Knowing.” (Check it out at http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/going-out-not-knowing.) I’ve been writing this blog for about ten months and have posted twenty-eight pieces thus far. I like it because I get immediate feedback.
I have also recently submitted an article to the Psychology Today magazine, not online, but the magazine itself. Haven’t heard back yet, but liked what I wrote. I’ll keep you posted.
Hope you all are well
Take care.
