SACRED SHELTERS:

Instead of spending months, even years with an analyst, Stone Creek Woman encouraged battered women to shed the victim label early on, and adopt her earth-friendly therapies, using them as economical doses of medicine to banish them from the maze of ugliness.
"Like experimental rats, we have allowed our abusers to control our movements, thoughts, and identities. Spousal abuse is a confusing network of walled pathways leading to a series of cruel acts which undermine the matriarchal society. The walls of our imprisonment must be torn down. Battered women, sand-digging mice, ear-scratching rats, copulating rabbits, grain-gobbling pigeons, and virus-testing monkeys all have one thing in common. Their behavior is determined by the will of others," Stone Creek Woman theorized, lending an analogy as to how battered women were just as cruelly manipulated, and physically and mentally altered by their abusers as animals used in laboraory experiments.

Her short-termed therapies had long-term results which Stone Creek Woman viewed as cost-effective. That was an important factor not only to the battered women who had no medical insurers and managed-care providers that did not cover on-going therapy, and limited the therapy duration.

Positive feedback supplied to Stone Creek Woman from repeat clients told her these battered women who attended her camp not only once, but two and three times a season had abandoned their Prozac, and recognized her earth-based medicine to be more effective than traditional prescriptions at a fraction of the cost at just twenty-dollars-a-day for the eight-day fix. She liked to think of it as offering her healing wisdom for free, but the cost was ciphered by a willingness to "pad" into positive territory, telling the battered women, "It is only the first step that costs here at this camp, and by the time you leave, you will have learned how to adjust your sandals in someone else's melon patch without being criticized, punished, or bruised."
