You told me that we had but little time
Six months at least they say
No words will come…just stunned silence
Our future dreams now gone
The long chestnut hair I loved to brush
Now lays in my hand as clumps
I saved it all and tied it with pink silk ribbon
Once rosy cheeked, now sunken and sallow
Your body that gave me such pleasure
Now is withered and racked with pain
You’re still beautiful in my eyes love
How I long to end your suffering
The angels came for you while sleeping
You’re free at last my love
But now my sentence has begun
To miss you for my lifetime
I was left with no time to mourn you
Duty called me back to life
A tragedy of mammoth proportions
Twin towers no longer matched
The second is the one I must enter
Pushing, shoving and screams of fright
As people fled around me
Their world is soon to crumble
My thoughts are to stay behind
As surely the building was about to fall
My want to be with you was so strong
I no longer wanted to go on
And I thought I knew my destiny
Just then I see your face before me
In swirling dust of gray
You gently place your hand in mine
Pulling me along the way
You came for me my heart tells me
But the dream was not the truth
You were really guiding me to safety
“This is not your time,” she whispered
“We’ll be together soon enough”
With that a deafening roar was sounding
As the huge building came crashing down
Many lives will never be the same
Mine was meant to carry on
To save the lives of others
I’ll always remember your touch that day
That angelic face I’ll forever see
But only in my dreams you’ll live
My sweet, sweet Marie.
The basis of this story is true ...there really was a Marie, who died of cervical cancer right before the 9/11 tragedy. Her mate is a NYC firefighter. He told me his thoughts of staying behind in that second tower....only wanting to be with his Marie. His story touched me so...the rest is what you see.
Tragic well told story. I would guess there are lots of stories yet to be told about that terrible day and lots of stories that will never be told.

Oh, Dee, this is so sad. It's beautiful too. You wrote this so wonderfully. How sweet to see her guide him out. The face of HIS Angel. She is watching over him. She will live forever in his heart. Beautiful......further words escape me.
Many hugs,
Jan

I wrote this novel several years ago, I self published and never had it to sell. I have decided to rewrite it and hope to get it published within a few months for people to be able to buy. I had a few copies and gave them to a few family members and

Truly heartwrenching. What sorrow, love, and tears. My heart goes out to the young man. You at least have shown him ~ he'll never walk alone.
Hugs,
Maria
