The War

The war within oneself is a battle that could be compared to a rage between flesh. This poem takes that into account.

Mysterious eyes and a shadow of face

A beating heart at a warrior’s pace

Strength, unmet, held deep inside

Where only the thrill of both collide.

Flesh to flesh, the war begins

As conquests fall onto their sins.

Gather into the touch of fate

A caress of skin in sinewy state.

From where all mortal lives converge,

Into the lust that is their scourge.

Dark windows that lead into a soul

That battles itself the more to be whole.

A cry in the night that no one hears

Becomes its own with fatal fears.

Loved this honest and introspective write, Mary. I can relate to this on so many levels; but, spiritually, on a Christian level, I am currently on a journey where I feel led to unearth things in my life and emotions that have been suppressed for many years and to deal with them... it is indeed a struggle to find the courage to do this, and an even greater struggle to "do the right thing with what I find", but one which I am sure with God's help I will win and to begin and persevere is better than not starting at all! Honesty and integrity are paramount, I am sure. Therefore loved your lines here: "Dark windows that lead into a soul / that battles itself the more to be whole". You have really connected with me here, and many thanks for your visit to my page, too. Bless you, Kate x

Yes. We are often in a conflict within for I believe within us are sometimes several "personalities. Well done, Mary. Love and peace. Regis

Good poem, filled with a variety of imagry. One moment a battle of hate, another a lustful night, then back to the battle. ~ Sara

Mary you wrapped yourself up inwardly to face something (the war) disagreeable to you. Your reticence is posed and positioned. A good introspective look at war as you feel it must be. Bill Murray

Nice write. I enjoyed your rhyme scheme. The unheard cry in the night is a nice touch. Enjoyed.
