To disguise one's own identity for just one night is the only invitation to this masquerade...
A night, unhallowed, falls in line,As does the characters you see.All reality disappearsNo longer trapped in bourgeoisie. The darkened hues become a norm,Though some may break the nighttime spell.Hiding behind a nightmare’s dream,The souls within will never tell. The rustle of the colored leaves,The calling of the wicked crow,The full moon shining in the dark,Causing a chill when the winds blow.Into a place where no one goes,The crowd of pretenders do flee. There is no longer politics. This is no room for having tea.Waltzing among the other fiends,Swallowing the fruits of the land,Contorting with monsters unknown,As mystery comes from the band.I beckon you to come with meInside the realm of the unknown.A ball that’s filled with masquerade A night of Halloween’s own throne.

Dear Mary,
This poem is rich in metaphors and imagery. The form is just perfect to give the sense of Unknown in a colorful variety.
Thanks for sharing:)

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
