I Whisper Upon Parchment

I whisper upon parchment
friendly and fare
my words
you'll find not
abiding elsewhere,
you see
for I blazed them in passion
from both pulpit and stage
park soapboxes, high rooftops
marketplaces indeed
from high horses
to mountaintops
they tolled like clear bells
my ear cupped
I listened
turning this way and that
ear cupped still straining
for mans answer
shouted back
I corneted again
my battle-cry of torn heart
protested and heralded
from mountaintops
camels backs
I cupped then my ear
to the east then the west
to hear well the answer
of man singing back
but instead just the echo
of my words swinging back
I stood seemed forever
with my ear bent and cupped
not bright as the next chap
who now by sea found in nap
I stood there a lifetime
begging audience to word
yet my words felled
upon the ear man wore
brought no answer ever back
I now scribble to parchment
my audience select
the heavens
clouds, stones and trees
that yes, answer me back
I called out to man till my
longing laid worn
I cried out to man
bout my heart oh so torn
I heard only laughter
in answer to mine
yes my call
my essence, I etched
in fresh bloodletting spree
it took more than courage
to sound the signal
and alarm of my soul,
yet they answered in ridicule,
yes, all, one and all
I mutter now
only to parchment
my whispered uttering of heart
for none seemed to hear
when I shouted and barked
my parchment
found friend
my words
scented in me
yes, inscribing my signature
on times
dusty aged old tree.
