Like sun-bleached bones on a forgotten battlefield,
I have been abandoned.
Like a summer morning fog lifted from a mountain lake,
My youth has vanished.
Like the theft of frost by a late December sun,
My strength and freshness have been taken.
Like the flower replaced by weeds in a neglected garden,
I am overcome.
Like the unrelenting rush of water against the river’s bend,
Even my memories are washed away.
Like my unkempt house with broken doors and walls,
My end is hastened through lack of caring.
Like the black cold waters of a rising tide,
Sorrows drown my heart.
Like the dying sound of distant mournful music,
My weakened soul begins to fade.
And as I descend into the realm and stench of death,
I am pushed from this dark aloneness
Down through the uncharted depths of Hell.
