Awakening

This morning when I woke up, it was a typical beautiful San Antonio November morning with the wind blowing and the birds singing. My chimes naturally were gently swaying on the porch, and my darling was on his way out the door to do errands. My daughter and her friend were in the living room watching TV, and I had the unique opportunity to sit and talk with her about God and awakening the spirit.
She told me that she didn’t believe in God because of all of the bad things that have happened to our family, and that happen to people around us. (Typical for a teen going on 15 and for a lot of adults). My heart ached a little. I tried to explain to her the beauty of life, and reminded her of the blessings that we all have regardless of our challenges.
So many people truly believe that God makes things happen to them, or that God is responsible for the good and bad things that happen in their lives. I have learned since my accident that because of the gift of Free Will, that this is not true . When we cry, God cries. God experiences through us. Because of free will, humanity is the one who chooses what happens. God is not the one who CHOSE that my accident would happen to me… He did not CHOOSE my ex to cheat on me… I had to make my daughter understand this.
What God did do, was stand beside me in my times of sorrow and weakness, and give me courage and strength to move forward. When I cried, God cried. When I smiled, God smiled. When I needed someone to turn to, God was there. When I needed an angel in my life, he sent them.
If we look within our hearts, we can find that the Kingdom of Heaven exists within each of us. Many Christians are taught that Jesus stands at the door, knocking. It is actually God’s Kingdom in our hearts. The peace and love reside in each of us if we will only seek to set our pride and egos aside and bask in the glory that dwells within each of us. To this, we can awaken our spirits and our hearts. It doesn’t matter our religion – it is actually ‘religion’ that has caused so much distress and war, and that is definitely not what God intended for His children. Imagine what our world would be like if we all found peace and love and forgiveness and awakening in our hearts and followed our hearts, instead of some sect? Think about it. Don’t you think it’s time to wake up?
