Upgrade the Declaration of Independence and become a fully- functioning person in the twenty-first century of the third millennium. No longer can we extoll dependence or independence. Our survival and meaning depend upon our pursuit of interdependence.
Interdependence is inherent in life. It is a given. By nature we are interdependent, notwithstanding our dependence and independence states of consciousness. Unlike interdependence both dependence and independence are temporary.
The choice to be interdependent has been made for us. However, we have a choice, that we can repeat, to refuse to accept the truth about who we are and our relationship to others. We do this at our own peril.

Autonomy, self-sufficiency
and "rugged" or "smooth" individualism are illusions. We are connected at all points, not just by the umbilical cord at birth. The present global economic conditions remind us of how interdependent we are on each other worldwide.
Idolizing one's own family while having no compassion for other families and being for citizens of one's own nation but against citizens of other nations demonstrates evilness, not goodness.
The evolution of man - and man is in the making still - as evidenced in science, technology, including a technology of behavior, communication, and general knowledge available for the masses, has "raised the bar," so to speak. Man has been catapulted to where he now stands at the threshold of the entrance to Paradise. This new man is everyman. Dare anyone fail to acknowledge another man as his equal and brother.
Interdependent man's relationships are extended beyond human beings. His ecological relationship to the Cosmos is much like God's relationship to all creation. This is the true meaning of God-consciousness. O how the sun, moon and stars; wind, rain and snow; vegetation and all creatures, large and small; things perceived and those not known - beingness and nothingness; impact man's survival and engender meaning into his life.
We are one in spirit, commitment, and love. We love each other not because we need each other - although we do - but we need each other because we love each other. This is the heart and soul of the Declaration of Interdependence.
Your writing is informative and unique in so many ways, yet I just cannot buy into the "it takes a village" theory. Rewarding those who will not pull their own weight is futile. One can be very compassionate, willing to offer aid to those who are willing to help themselves, but for those who are not.........
Personal responsibility is primost and the key to survival of the fittest. In life and in business, there are winners and losers. Why should anyone be rewarded for laziness, ineptitude, ignorance, stupidity, deceit and hate?. Nice thought but only in a socialists dream world could all be equal in those respects.
In "A Touch of Your Presence" are words that would inspire, encourage and strengthen one's soul when faced with challenges and difficulties and to know the awesomeness of God's power.
