THE TRAINby Dale Hudgins Copyright 2000-2003All rights reserved.No part of this poem may be reproduced in any form without written consent of the author.At first I hear the sound, trains horn, blaring,I know it’s time for me to leave,Reach to open the door, wait you said, don’t go, yet,I still have a few minutes more, till I have to go home,We can talk till then,Closed the door, lit a cigarette and said, Okay,Just what is it you or I have yet to say,I don’t know, but, I do want to tell you that I love you and I willMiss you,I love you and I will miss you, as well,We’ve been over this a thousand times before,You have to stay and I have to go, but sometime, at some point,We can be together,Yeah, about million days down the road,It won’t be that long, you say, kids will be gone, we can be togetherthen,You could go now, I say, can’t have to stay here, family,Responsibilities and all,I hear the train’s horn blaring, time for me to go,Lean over kiss you goodbye, tears are falling,Don’t worry, don’t cry, ‘cause one day, this train, will come backThis way,One day soon, I hope,I hold your hand in mine, hug you really tight,Kiss you, wave a sad goodbye.I hear now, that you spend your days along the track,Listening, that train, I hear,Never does come back.

I really love this poem. Sad and sensible, caught in grief and reality. How incredibly sad and lonely the things that keep lovers from one another.
