common ground between us all

STRAY DOGS

Every once in awhile, I’ll notice the odd stray dog poking around a dumpster, trying to survive his day.

But, I pass on bye, yes I keep going like everyone else, to concerned with where I am going to stop and care.

How do they end up wandering the streets, when did someone stop caring for these innocent friends?

Scrounging for food, running away to find safety from all of us. No warm petting, no soft smiles and warm spots to curl up on.

Just cold hard living, the daily fight some of us have in trying to survive. The daily struggle some of us seem to share with that odd stray dog.

I remember those days; all too easily I’m afraid, they don’t seem that long ago.

Long never ending days with cold nights and no place to call home.

Tasteless meals eaten alone, mind numbing shows with no points being made.

Endlessly rolling our emptiness over and over in our mind, spinning faster and faster, never under control.

There was a time that I had much in common with that odd stray dog.

Now when I see those homeless creatures left to find there own way, I get that pain of sadness, the empty feeling that radiates from within.

I only hope as I have, that they some day find their way, such as I have, it’s allowed me to live, yes, live once again.

You see, I’ve found my hope.

Bear
