I’m Not a Number

The world today has become a place of some very insensitive ways, a number here and a number there.

Pass codes and id’s and tracking numbers, oh dear, when did I cease to be real?

Then why go half way, I’m sure some one would prefer, to cast aside our names, drown out our personalities, you know have us cease to exist.

Hello 423, how is 787, it’s been awhile, I hope he’s okay. Did you hear that 957 had a son, I think he’s number 69728, A fine number don’t you think?

Speaks of strength and character and a mindful soul, a fine number it is, a fine number indeed.

Do you remember 473, what a pretty girl she was, of course a number like that says it all. Who would ever guess that she would go that far.

Me, well you know, old fossils like me, I’m a relic, a throwback to the past, I’m sure there just bidding there time until I am no more.

It’s still the same old problem, that’s why I get ignored, my number, oh gee, it’s been so long.

I know, I know, I should get in step find my place in line, but, it’s complicated you see, not easy at all.

I was given a number, what ever it was, my problem you see, is that I was born with a name.

So I still answer only to bear.
