Reassuring Glances
The ups and downs have been many, always threatening to spin out of control.
Cautiously stepping and watching for our next stumble, hoping that we don’t fall.
Never looking back, afraid of what we had left behind, such was life for the children born under a dark cloud.
The measure of our day was the price that we had to pay in worry and fears and did our walls hold up for another day.
The contrast of living under our dark cloud and walking in the lighted day of those who didn’t care.
Became our comfort zone, this was where we lived straddling those worlds of darkness and light.
I was a lucky one, yes it’s selfish to now issue my proclamation of redemption, I no longer walk my path alone.
When those feelings try and return to claim my life, I’ve but to turn and receive the empowering reassurance of a single glance.
That look that says everything will be all right, my angel of mercy, my crutch to lean on.
This woman with the strength to share, this women with that life giving reassuring glance.
The one that brings that smile to my face, the woman that causes my heart to feel the warmth of love.
I now am armed with the strongest of shields; I now am in control of my day.
All from the one reassuring glance.
