The holidays are here

Welcome one and all; young people, married people, single people, and of course those like me, I’m thinking that covers the old.

It’s the holiday time, yes it’s finally here; those days that Madison Ave tells us is filled with good tidings and cheer.

Pictures of big families with smiles wide and warm; banquet tables filled with beautiful foods and Christmas trees that look so grand.

There’s grandma and grandpa hugging the children with mom running about in her brand new apron.

In the corner there’s Cousin Betty talking and laughing with Uncle Frank; what a glorious time for one in all; after all that’s what it says in the full page all in-color Christmas ad.

Oh, by the way, as it always says, “sale starts on Tuesday with limited quantities…and the store opens at 8 a.m.”.

I know I don’t fit this picture; how about you; I’m sure there are many others just like me and you.

It becomes a season of wishing it would all go away, stop reminding me that I don’t fit that mold.

What do these people want; what do they think? Well it’s all about money anyway; profits and margins; go and get every last buck.

Aw, what the hell; why let them ruin my day; I don’t really know any of these people; that is; the ones that really do exist.

I or we have survived our year; take this time and regroup our thoughts; make the new plan and don’t let them make you play their game.

We live with the opportunity to find success in the coming year; choose paths that return enlightened avenues; whatever they turn out to be.

So take heart my friends we are not alone; we are probably the majority which they certainly don’t want us to know and we really aren’t the people they know how to control.

We are the people who live to survive as well as the people who survive to live.

Until we create our better days ahead; a big happy holidays and a warm hug and a smile.

Bear

You have painted the holidays in a better light for those who never fit the commercial mold.

No flash, no glitz, no fanfare, or expensive gifts, just family and close friends celebrating the birth of Jesus and passing all along to the younger generation...

Be always safe,
Karen

Some of us getting older might well think this way! while others might well just get so fed up with it they just bugger off to Devon like we're doing this year. ye olden cottage stuck on the very edge of dartmoor, after dumping the car in car-park where it will spend xmas alone, Carol singers dressed in traditional costume, real lanterns carried, pub meals-real ale served in front of real log fires burning with actual smoke coming up mrom the ...well, you can guess the rest. Charles Dickens would be at home there.
