Beneath the sands

Cast away your hopes I say

join me on the downward slope

to whence we came from dirt below

we can but return upon death’s final throes

a nickel caught in the hand of time

no reason, no meaning, nor rhyme

the bird is but on the wing

and I am caught by the hands of destiny

a cruel man’s jest I have become

lock and stock and barrels run

vibrations travel down the death’s tunnel

spinning silo shining with rust

back skull broken

self love is lost.

Soldier's Gap by David Schwinghammer
