Oh God, the shadows creep too near.
They scare my heart and make me fear.
No confidence, that is my crisis.
I’ve drifted far from Your oasis.
The thunder rolls inside my heart.
I’m tattered, ripped, and torn apart.
The lightning flashes and makes me weak.
I wish to pray but cannot speak,
Because I'm not sure if You would hear me,
For it seems You are no longer near me.
Crawling now, I boldly go
Before Your throne to let you know
My dire need, this place I’m in;
Please, send Your comfort felt within.
Exhausted at last, I’m completely done.
No more to walk beneath Your sun.
Defeated, weak, how can I be strong?
Yet I lift my head to hear a song.
A tune familiar and yet so faint,
You send it through another saint.
Again I’m reminded that joyfully
I must live this life faithfully.
I rise again and with a shout
I stand up tall and turn about.
More storm clouds on the horizon loom,
And each one thunders to see my doom.
But in my heart You will hear praise,
As the victor’s song I loudly raise.
