We laughed last night.
You cupped my face
and smiled into my eyes,
a comedy of sorts.

Later you called, just to say good night,
and I cried myself to sleep,
missing you, missing us;
the drama of denouement.

Lessons have been learned,
hurts have been forgiven,
if not healed
during our catharsis.

There is much unsaid.
We are like actors who have
forgotten our lines in the
second act.

The crowd awaits anxiously
as we listen for the prompter
to cue us with the proper dailogue.
We are unfinished.

Our false walls surround us,
blocking us from each other
as we play to the audience
with our asides.

I yearn for the final curtain
in this tragedy we have
created ...

And then there are days when we laugh
and you smile into my eyes
and I am lost.
