Autumn deceives with her warm days
and cool, crisp nights.
After the heat of her sister’s
reign of relentless sun,
Autumn’s quiet nonchalance evokes
a false hope of endless bounty.
We partake of her fruits,
celebrate the beauty
of her splendid garments,
while we keep the knowledge
of the last sister’s solstitial enthronement
hidden in our deepest chambers.
Although tomorrow, with her
cold snows and icy winds,
will surely unseat our current monarch,
we revel in nature’s dance today.
And when we are subjugated
to the bitter regent of winter
we will rely on the memories
we have harvested while
the golden queen ruled us.
