Who was Mizu? Why did he want to hide his background?

         MIZU’S  KITCHEN

Whenever you are in the mood

For something special, something good,

Why not visit Mizu’s kitchen

Where you will find a good selection

Of delicious dishes by the dozen,

Bread fresh baked straight from the oven,

Crisp lettuce leaves in salads charming,

The products of organic farming.

And Mizu himself will welcome you

Then with a smile will lead you to

A table with cloths in red and white,

Bring snacks to whet your appetite

While having drinks and looking over

The items in the menu’s cover.

Yes, Mizu’s a friendly genial host,

Honest and sincere he seems to most,

But sometimes one senses he wants to hide,

Something he’s bottling up inside,

And occasionally when caught off guard,

His features are fierce, his eyes are hard,

And his walk, a confident swaggering gait

Exuding authority at every pace,

Where does it come from? Was he in charge

Of battalions of soldiers fighting in wars?

Nobody knows, and he won’t reveal

Why he wants his past to conceal.

And, of course, there are people who say

He worked for the dreaded Kempeitei,

Or that he commanded prison camps

And at the inmates would rave and rant,

And beat and torture sadistically

In order to show to them that he

Had absolute power, that he could decide

Just who should live and who should die,

And when people sometimes confront him

With these tales he shrugs and grins

And says what I am is what you see,

I’m sure I have no enemies,

So let’s not worry about the past,

But make our present friendship last.
