This was written with a specific person and specific incident in mind but I think there's some universal feeling in the lines most of us can identify with. Also - I hope I don't offend anyone when I address this to the "young"....I am WELL aware that older folks can let us down just as often as anyone else! (SMILE)

Many years ago my father used to say
“What’s wrong with the thinking of the youth today?
Why can’t you make commitments, or step up to the line?
Why, when I ask you to take a stand, do you instead whine?”

I thought that he was picking on me - looking for a fight,
But now that I am so much older I see that he was right.
I’m thinking just the same thoughts about the youth today,
If they could only understand the time they throw away.

Commitment is an honor, it means I’m not afraid
It means when people trust me, their trust is not mislaid.
I wish some people that I know would use the Golden Rule,
For if they don’t believe in it, they truly will be fools.
