Thirteen years ago today
Before each other we stood to say
We’d cherish each other for years to come
‘Til death would part, ‘til life was done.

We spoke the words in a chapel so small
You in your gray tux, handsome and tall
Me in my ribbons, satin and lace
A big silly grin on my 40-something face.

Our family and friends were there for the fun
We celebrated with champagne for everyone
The violin played “our song”, and we danced to our tune
“As Time Goes By” was lovely, but the time approached noon.

We had to leave the party to pack for our trip
Away from our guests in the limo we slipped
We were headed for Rome to begin our honeymoon
What a day that was - it was over way too soon.

From Rome then to Venice, on to Lucerne, and to Paris
We were old honeymooners but that didn’t embarrass!
From Paris we went to London for the end of our trip
Then back home into routine lives we did slip.

But today I will remember that day years ago
When it was me and you who were stars of the show
And tonight when we go out to celebrate this day
Over champagne “I love you” no doubt we shall say.
