Eucalyptus, pecan, Scotch pine, and ash
Promises of shelter,
Warmth, and rations.
A generous gift
From the Maker’s own hand,
A bountiful resource
For the family of man.

Our world evolved
From an arboreal sea.
Now measured a cash crop,
As seen on TV,
It’s ten bucks a foot,
At the store down the street.

The floors, the walls,
The ceiling beams felled.
Rainforests stripped,
The world up for sale,
Depletion producing
The climate from hell.

Paper or plastic,
We don’t get the joke.
Books and broomsticks,
Boxes and boats;
Recycle, replant,
Renew, and restore!

Clear-cutter's scab.
The evicted wildlife,
The eroding wet-lands.
Will our future unfold
Like a tent in the sand,
Recalling "Tree Glory"
As the forest's last stand?
