January ain’t a good month in the northern hemisphere.
There’s a dimness to the light that makes things kinda weird.
I am tangled in the shadows of this seasonal subterfuge,
Here comes some wet and nasty weather - here comes my January blues.
Why this unsympathetic loathing that burrows deep inside?
Why the fear, the emptiness, the torment of the mind?
Nothing seems to melt it, there is no sunny point of view.
The kiss of New Years Eve, she brought my January blues.
With winter comes the winter chill that slices to the bone,
An anguish like no other when you‘re lost and all alone.
Pills don’t bring your woman back- the drink don’t make it true .
I can feel a cold wind a blowin’ ‘round my January blues.
The darkness ever waiting, the throbbing dagger deep,
The days are overwhelming and at night there is no sleep.
My heart is all but frozen, I’m too danged cold to move.
Dinner’s in the freezer - with my January blues.
I am sitting in an igloo, water dripping from the walls.
I do my best to muddle through and wait for spring to thaw.
In this unrelenting snow storm - ain’t nothin’ I can do.
Feels like the end of everything – ‘cept my January blues.
Even if I took my life from misery’s hoary hands,
There’d just be another song from another cold and lonely man.
Winter days and worldly woes, dark clouds rollin’ ‘cross the moon.
I say, here we go again, - it’s another case of those January blues.
Spoken like the blues was meant to be heard...amidst a cold night, wind a-blowin' and there's not enough saw dust on the floor to absorb the pain fallin' free of the man, men, woman, women...spirits all in the dimly lit solitude of loneliness. Know it well...fortunately, once upon a time for me.
Sounds like you've got a Norse bloodline somewhere, Michael. They've always known that Hel is a cold damp place, lonely, dark and wintry. That's why Northern Europeans and their 'melancholy' Danes were so willing to accept the Christian Easter ... they already knew Spring as resurrection. Well said, as always. Cheers from the Long House.

Another great one my friend. This one deserves to be sung with heart.
