Isaac Newton defined gravity as a force that attracts all objects to all other objects. Albert Einstein said gravity is a result of the curvature of space-time.

How are we not floating?
Dare I dialogue
On this vague notion of gravity?
What police
To enforce such laws as these?
Unassuming nature,
This elephant in the room.
Expanding, contracting,
Inviting rampant speculation
And the subsequent development
Of our empirical system of inquiry.
This, in effort to tempt interpretation;
Enough voices to right the spinning globe,
To mark the mass at the core of it,
To turn the weightlessness of space
Into push and pull,
North and south,
Up and down.
Flights of fancy lifting birds and aviators;
Imagination necessary to reach escape velocity,
Yet somehow still pinning
Feet and apples to the ground.
Critical thinking, theorems and
Mathematical formulas,
The world a science kit
Complete with test tubes and litmus paper.
All to focus on a simple notion
A hypothesis,
A ball of string unwound;
A spider web of sorts,
This sticky business.
