Francis walked on barefoot
without staff or scrip
and began to preach repentance
how to come to God through it

he had made a pledge of poverty
and to speak of only love
to bring the world out of it's misery
to the glory up above

and one by one they came to him
the little brothers of the road
as he wandered through the mountains
knowing whether they should go

and they sang of peace and joy
dressed in rags and without fear
and the people came from miles around
for his words for them to hear

and so they formed an order
Ordo Fratrum Minorum
and so became the friars
and the legend had begun

and to this day these men of God
do their good deeds through the land
in the name of He who was born again
who called Himself the Son of Man
