Alone beneath the great wide sky Between sleep and sleep The haggard soul cries out For water and for rest. Trapped twixt the gods' benign indifference And man's malicious demands The haggard soul cries out For vision of its own. Caught in the whirl of passion's whim and Ground by its own dust The haggard soul cries out For peace at the last. Dwarfed beneath the great wide sky Insignificant before the powers The haggard soul cries out at last Here I am. . .
