I recently set a goal for myself of three poems a day. I did OK for the first four or five days-then not so well. The poem tells why ...

what is it i fear?
two thousand words
on a page?

if the words were
swords
they would not
frighten,
yet words do

words are
sharper than
swords

for words
expose
the heart
of the writer
to
the
writer.

what is it i fear?

three poems a day?

if the poems were mountains
i would not fear to climb

but poems
i fear

poems
are bits

of my
soul.

bits
of my
soul

mounted

and
offered to
strangers

for their
casual
disapproval.

"for words

I loved that stanza. "...the heart of the writer TO the writer". It is so true, and scary, as well. Its amazing! When you're on a roll as in three poems a day, the mind keeps pouring out thoughts -- its a never ending stream. And once in a while, it stops my heart. "Oh boy! did I just think what think I thought? and could that possibly be me?" Scary! you get to know a part of yourself you didn't even know existed.

Good poem. Your thoughts are clear, and well expressed.

Carmen :-)

You have nothing to fear, John; you've shown a poetic bit of your soul quite well right here.
