Summer arrived the other day. Cool and damp, but summer just the same.

the leaves are getting thick and strong,
warming to their season's work. spring
almost passed, high summer approaches.
the strong green leaves will make their mark
a new ring in the trees, a crop of nuts,
or apples or pears, a legacy for summers
to come. the hay stands tall driven by that
fierce engine that maddens the trees.

nature responds to nature's edicts,
lengthening days and warming sun,
exploding in a fine fierce ecstasy
of growth and fruiting, driven by
the fiery fecund sun in its race
across the blue spring sky.
