the poet sees thunder
behind clear blue sky
he sees a devil
in a guardian angel
the evil in his own heart.
he's a downer, a crape hanger,
a wet blanket, a party pooper;
maudlin when he’s drunk.
until push comes to shove
and the sky begins to fall
then the poet sees
the sun beyond the storm
the hope that triumphs
over disaster, and
the
power of the
open human heart.
