mile deep ice
wrenched
these boulders
from the bedrock
rolled them
a thousand miles
grinding them
round and smooth
along the way; then
buried them deep
in this southern soil.
only to be dug up,
ages later,
by the tyrant low
and incarcerated
in these
walls and piles…….
mile deep pain
wrenched
these memories
from the bedrock
of the poet’s heart.
hard living and
poor choices
rolled them
a thousand years
blunting, grinding
their sharp reality
until with a
generous addition
of outright lies,
grammar, and
illusive allusion,
the poet brings forth
a new poem.
